November is going to be a very fun month of learning for us in first grade! We are still extremely busy becoming better readers, writers, scientists and mathematicians! Thank you all for being such a strong force on the home front. I believe the home to school connection will help ensure success for your child. Please empty the back of your child’s binder labeled “Keep at Home” each evening. Also, thank you for making sure your child is dressed according to the school uniform policy. If you have any questions concerning the uniform policy please refer to you parent/student handbook. Be sure to read below and check the November calendar below for more information and more important dates.
Important Classroom Reminders and Information:
Skyward: Our virtual grade book is ready for you to use. You should have received a letter from the Central Office explaining how to access this helpful tool. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning your child’s grades.
AR News: We are already racking up AR points so that we can earn as many AR points as possible. The first grade goal is 25 points by May. All first graders earning 25 points will get to attend the annual pancake breakfast. I have also encouraged students to aim higher towards the 100 point club. Students who earn 100 points will get to attend an additional celebration in May. Happy Reading!!! Remember to use the AR log in your child’s binder to indicate when your child is ready for an AR quiz. Please don’t forget to initial it also. You do not need to write baggy book titles on the AR log.
Reading and Spelling: You are able to see weekly spelling words and high frequency words (HFW) words in several places. They are listed on our monthly newsletter and I send home a weekly reading sheet that gives more information. The spelling words are also in your child’s binder.
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday only. No homework on Friday! Thank you for checking homework each night and helping your child when they have difficulties. Remember you can check the daily classwork in the back of your child’s binder for guidance if needed.
Social Studies and Science: In social studies we will be learning about traditions, culture and our heritage. I hope everyone enjoys leraning about their family heritage with the Heritage Doll project.
Upcoming Events: Our first field trip the Orlando History Center is this week! We are so excited.
Thank you again for all you do at home to ensure that your child is successful in first grade!!!
