Welcome to another exciting school year! We have some exciting things going on in first grade.
First grade is going on their first field trip to the Orange County Regional History Museum. Our class is going on Thursday, November 9th. We will be leaving from the Primary Center at 8:30 and return at 2:00. Each student needs to bring a sack lunch and a drink with their name on it, or purchase a school lunch. The cost is $18.00 for students. Please make checks out to VCS. Payment and forms are due Friday, October 27th. The forms are available for you on my webpage if you are in need of another copy. We are very excited about our trip and we know that the student's will enjoy learning about Central Florida's history.
Book-o-ween is Tuesday, October 31st. The students will be dressed up as their favorite book character and present a small presentation on the book that they have chosen. Don't forget to return the form that lets me know the book and character they have chosen to read.
We have partnered up with Mrs. Osborn for the Buffalo Basket. Our basket is called the Willy Wonka Candy Extravaganza! I have sent home a note that gives you some suggestions on items to donate for our basket. If you would like to donate items, then please have them turned in by Tuesday, October 31st. If you are unable to purchase items, then you may donate money for us to purchase these items for our basket. Thank you so much for your help and support!
Yearbooks are on sale for $20.00 and will be done online only through April 2nd. You can visit the website ybpay.lifetouch.com. The ID Code is 13306618.
First Grade Parent Night is Thursday, October 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the Primary Center. This is a great way to learn more about first grade and earn PI hours as well. There will be more information coming home soon. I hope to see you there.

The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is a computer program that provides teachers and children with a fun and exciting way to boost reading skills. This program also serves as an assessment tool that allows me to monitor both the quantity and quality of reading practice that your child is engaged in.In my classroom we use Accelerated Reader in order to help students improve reading comprehension as well as to help them develop a love for reading. Accelerated Reader is an independent reading program based on the principle that practice improves reading. to view your child's progress in the AR (Accelerated Reader) program you can visit the website listed below. It is easy to get signed up and use this great service. You will receive emails to your personal email address when you child has tested. It is a valuable tool to use keeping in touch with your child's progress. Please take advantage of this resource offered to you. We are already racking up AR points so that we can earn as many AR points as possible. The first grade goal is 25 points by May. All first graders earning 25 points will get to attend the annual pancake breakfast. I have also encouraged students to aim higher towards the 100 point club. Students who earn 100 points will get to attend the annual pizza party.
