Our Quarter 3 unit is called “It’s all GREEK to me!” The essential question is “What makes a good argument?” The goals for this unit include:
- Review of rhetorical appeals
- Discussion of logical fallacies
- Argumentative essay writing
- More vocab, with a focus on Greek and Latin roots
- Poetry focus: sonnet
Novel study: BLACK SHIPS BEFORE TROY (5 AR points)
As in other quarters, there will be a culminating slideshow project for this unit that will be worth 100 mastery points and due the last week of the quarter (on 3/6/2023).
We will also be utilizing a new website that is going to help us with learning English grammar and conventions: NoRedInk.com. Students will be doing short practice assignments on this site for daily bellringers, and then taking short quizzes on the concepts practiced during week on Fridays.
ELA homework will continue to consist of AR reading and completing one iReady lesson on their individual Reading path each week. We have a new incentive for iReady: If you complete an iReady lesson every week, you will receive an automatic 100% for the final week’s lesson.
I will continue to email weekly assignments. Due dates will be on my Google Calendar located below.
Important dates for this quarter are also listed below.
Please reach out via email with any questions and concerns!
