Updated - 11/13/17:

Please make sure that lanyards with ID cards are worn. It is a disciplinary issue if they are not on the student.

Grades/Work: Progress Reports were emailed for all students on Sunday evening and all work was graded and/or re-graded prior to them being sent. I had students sign on to Skyward today to review their grade and ask me any questions they had regarding the status of their assignments - and all issues brought to my attention were resolved.

I am out tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/14) which is less than ideal. I reviewed all work with the students that were in class today and they know what to work on to be ready for the test, they received their Study Guides last Friday. Since our test had to be moved up to Wednesday 11/15, I will still take any Module 4 Classwork for credit through Friday, 11/17 instead of making the test day the last day.

All students that were in classes today received the Rubric for their individual recipe - students that were not there will receive them tomorrow. As mentioned during Open House and again extensively last week, they will be cooking/baking a colonial recipe. There are still a few students that haven't signed off that they've discussed the recipe for approval at home, and today was the last day recipe changes could be made. If you look at the Rubric, you will see that the first two groups need to be done at home, but we will have time in class to work on the organization of the pictures and information that they collect during the process. If you have any questions, please let me know asap.

Tutoring:  Officially, Tuesday and Wednesday until 4:15pm. If your student attends aftercare, he/she may leave at 4pm to attend snack with the rest of the aftercare classes if they are caught up; if your student is being picked up, tutoring ends at 4:15pm. NEW:  I am now the "8th Grade Computer Lab" teacher, so I will be staying until 5:15pm everyday now. The downside to this is that if your student is only staying for aftercare, now you need to come in and have aftercare call for your student before I can release them from my room.

Chromebooks: As we move through the day, several students are getting low on battery - please help them make sure they have all parts of the charger plugged in securely at night. We were just reminded again last week that a detention is to be written if the Chromebooks are not brought or are brought but not charged.

Lanyards: The ID and lanyard are required to be worn every day as part of the uniform. All students have been given an ID card and had the opportunity to get a free Buffalo lanyard. It is a Behavior Plan/Discipline issue if the lanyard is not here at school with the student and hanging around his/her neck so that it is immediately visable - not wearing it as requested becomes a dress code violation. I have encouraged all the students to take it off once they are in the car and put it into a backpack pocket - that way they can get it back out on the way to school the next day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Washington DC Trip - September 2018:

Please see the information shown on the VMCS Field Trips page if you are interested in attending. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Mr. Atkinson.

Please Note: For now, all of the classes have the same due dates - so although the title reads "1st Period American History" it can be used for each class (assignments are shown in Skyward as well). Click on the entry to see additional details. Students see all of this information in Google Classroom and should be able to show it to you there as well.
