Our current unit of study in Language Arts is focused on the novel A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. This play portrays a few weeks in the life of the Youngers, an African-American family living on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s. Themes in this classic piece of literature include the value of dreams, the need to fight discrimination, and the importance of family. Students are working in literature circles to read the play, and complete a packet of vocabulary and comprehension questions. In addition, they will complete a project as a final assessment for the unit. I will be asking my students to handle this subject matter with maturity and sensitivity.
Feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions that you may have. E-mail is best, however, I can return phone calls during limited times of the day. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. One more thing, please encourage your child to keep up with their AR reading. The 100% deadline is May 4.
