Explore Our Performing Arts Courses

The Villages Buffalo Bands is a comprehensive band program focused on making a positive difference in the lives of its members through creating a family-like atmosphere and providing meaningful, musical experiences. Through kindness, positivity, and hard work, our members strive to achieve their full potential as musicians and people.

Students gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of music as they build upon their musicianship and performance skills through the study of high-quality music in diverse styles. Student musicians learn to self-assess and collaborate as they rehearse, perform, and grow in music literacy.

Opportunities include:

  • Ensembles like the Marching Buffalo, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Winter Guard.
  • Marching Buffalo can be seen at VHS football games, at competitions within the state of Florida, and in local parades, such as The Villages Christmas Parade.
  • The Concert and Jazz Bands, and Percussion Ensemble may be heard throughout the school year at The Tracy Performing Arts Center and other locations throughout the community.
  • Our Winter Guard performs at competitions all around Florida, and most members may be seen again with the marching band in the Fall.
  • Our students strive to refine their individual skills outside of the classroom through participation in events like All-District & All-State Bands, Solo & Ensemble, Summer camps, local music competitions, and performances throughout the community.

These talented musicians and performers have proudly represented our school with multiple Superior ratings and Grand Champion titles over the years. With our new facilities and plentiful resources, the future looks bright for the Villages Buffalo Bands.

As always, “Great Band, Better People!”

Students explore elements of chorale and chamber singing including critical listening and aural skills, music theory and literacy, and ensemble performance. These courses play a significant role in shaping well-rounded performers who develop musicianship and ensemble performance skills through the study of high-quality music in diverse styles.

Our choirs perform around the community and in the winter and spring concerts at The Tracy Performing Arts Center and at district and state Music Performance Assessments (MPA) in which many students have consistently been recognized with Superior ratings for their efforts.

Students gain appreciation of dance as a technically challenging and culturally diverse performing art through courses in dance technique, choreography and performance, and world dance. Dance classes provide students with foundational skills in terminology, choreography, and dance sequences as they explore various dance genres including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and modern dance.

Dance students develop confidence as performers as they learn technical and performance skills that bring their art to life on stage, with the opportunity to showcase their talents in the annual Student Choreography Showcase and Spring Dance Concert.

Through coursework and on-stage performances, musical theatre students develop invaluable academic and life skills including literary analysis, creative expression, self-awareness, public speaking, and teamwork through collaboration. By examining the contributions of major writers, composers, lyricists, and choreographers of musical theater, students learn to analyze the structures, stories, and settings of musical theater exemplars, ultimately translating to the performance setting in enriching theatrical productions.

Our theatre students take to the stage at the Tracy Performing Arts Center for two thought provoking and entertaining performances each year. Previous noteworthy productions have included The Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Christmas Carol, Little Women and more!

As a member of the VHS Fine Arts Academy, students have the opportunity to advance the Fine Arts coursework started in ninth and tenth grades.  Our students will choose one course in the Fine Arts during their Junior year and two Fine Arts courses during their Senior year.  These courses may be a blend of the various Fine Arts areas of visual arts, dance, choir and band.
