Parental Involvement

A partnership for student success.

Parents play an essential role in The Villages Charter School (TVCS) community with their involvement in day-to-day activities. As a key element of our school charter, Parental Involvement Hours, or “P.I. Hours”, are required each year for enrollment qualification. In fact, more than 80,000 service hours are logged each year, well beyond the minimum requirements.

Our Parent Portal helps keep track of time spent at book fairs, reading celebrations, sporting events, fundraisers, and more. A wide variety of enriching volunteer opportunities bring parents, teachers, students, and the community together to create better educational opportunities for everyone.

TVCS students are fortunate to be in a unique educational environment surrounded by parents who go above and beyond, embracing the spirit of volunteerism. Our parents bring their own creative talents and experiences to share with students through their time and participation in and outside of the classroom.

As part of the enrollment requirement, parent involvement is mandatory for your child to attend TVCS. While involvement may take many forms, our charter and the Charter School Advisory Board have determined a minimal acceptable level of participation for each family as well as specific areas where involvement has the largest impact on student success.

You can find a list of volunteer opportunities in the section below and calendar of events on our Buffalo HERD page. Please contact our Central Office for more information at 352-259-2350.

  • Qualifying parent(s) (father/mother/stepfather/stepmother) and/or spouse (or designated adult if single parent) must complete 20 hours per school year for each building (Elementary, Middle, High School) where you have children enrolled.
  • Your total hours required includes at least 10 hours of Informational Meeting time and does not have to exceed 10 hours, regardless of how many students you have enrolled in any building.
  • The maximum number of hours required for any family will not exceed 50 hours per year.
  • If you have children enrolled in the Early Childhood Center (ECC), the total hours required is 10 hours. Your required number of hours for the ECC will not reflect on your P.I. Portal. For Early Childhood Center P.I. questions, please contact their front office.
  • While other family members, relatives or friends are encouraged to participate as community volunteers, their time cannot be calculated as P.I. Hours.
  • The timeframe for completing P.I. Hours begins the day after the closing of one school year and goes on until the last day of the next school year.
  • Incomplete P.I. time after the last day of school will result in loss of eligibility.

Attention Parents

It is recommended that you plan your activities and meet your obligation early each school year. We have developed a detailed Parent Involvement Handbook to help guide you through this process.

Please note: If you have a senior and they are applying for a Buffalo Foundation Scholarship, your PI obligation must be completed by April 1st.
